Sustainability Manager

An international real estate investment management business is seeking a Sustainability Manager to be based in their London office.

Role Overview

Reporting into the Head of Sustainability, you will focus on delivering their European sustainability strategy into a diverse real estate portfolio, delivering on asset-level performance, operational decarbonisation, compliance, and data excellence. Working with teams across the business to improve energy performance, carbon, climate resilience, social value, human rights, water, and waste.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering the sustainability strategy in multiple locations across different countries, for both existing properties and new projects, working in a collaborative style and maximising engagement.
  • Work with the investment leadership to set sustainability goals, work on new development or redevelopment projects, and support investor relations.
  • Support the development and implementation of net zero and decarbonisation roadmaps.
  • Assist the transaction team with due diligence sustainability assessments.
  • Oversee building performance improvements, energy optimisation, and decarbonisation projects across Europe, including assurance.
  • Oversee the management of building certification processes (e.g., BREEAM, DGNB, LEED, WELL, NABERS) and ensure continuous improvement and associated assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with EU and national sustainability regulations (e.g., EPBD, SFDR reporting, and operational data requirements).
  • Support climate risk, physical, and transition risk assessments and integrate findings into asset business plans.
  • Data management and reporting, including GRESB and annual sustainability reports.

Candidate Requirements

Must Have:

  • Proven track record in a similar role within the property, built environment, real estate, or construction industry.
  • Fluent in English and ideally another European language.
  • Experience of delivering ESG and sustainability services in the real estate sector.
  • Good commercial building operating knowledge, with an understanding of European real estate markets and the challenges of operating in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Great engagement and stakeholder management skills.
  • Technical knowledge of building systems, carbon accounting, energy optimisation, and sustainability certifications.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills, with experience in data collection.
  • Passion for the subject and to continue expanding your knowledge.

Desirable:

  • Construction management or property development experience.
  • French, Dutch, German, or Spanish language skills are highly desirable.
  • BREEAM, LEED, WELL, NABERS, or DGBD certifications.
  • Real estate asset management and/or investment management sector experience.

Job Details

  • Hybrid working with 2 days a week from home and requires travel to sites across Europe.
  • Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 based on your skills, plus a bonus, pension, and good benefits.
