Sustainability Manager – Net Zero (Buildings, Construction & Laboratory Infrastructure) | London

Susiii is recruiting a Sustainability Manager on behalf of a major London-based higher education institution, to drive sustainability performance across its property portfolio. This is a technical and strategic role that will work closely with and support our Capital Project Team in delivering our 2040 net zero carbon target across a large, complex, multi-site estate, including energy-intensive laboratory and research buildings.

What you'll be doing:

  • Translate high-level sustainability strategy into practical standards and targets for capital projects and refurbishments acting as the go-to sustainability advisor for estates teams, project managers, consultants and senior stakeholders.
  • Work across multiple live projects to embed low-carbon design principles into new builds and refurbishments (fabric performance, building services, materials, whole-life carbon), and push hard on demand reduction, heat electrification and getting fossil fuel systems out of the estate for good.
  • Develop the climate adaptation and resilience agenda (overheating, flooding, water stress) working with engineering teams to build resilience into both capital projects and specialist lab spaces.
  • Ensure this aligns with the wider Net Zero, Capital Projects and Maintenance Plans.
  • A particular focus of this role is laboratories and specialist infrastructure: working with our Sustainable Labs Manager, academic departments and lab managers to make energy-intensive research spaces more efficient without compromising research performance, and developing a programme for low-energy labs and retro-commissioning.
  • Oversee carbon modelling, energy benchmarking and post-occupancy evaluation, support statutory reporting (SECR, ESG), and represent the organisation in sector forums and working groups.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
