Job Description
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified Sustainability Manager to lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the University's sustainability strategies and associated programmes of activity.
The post holder will be responsible for promoting and embedding the principles of sustainability across the University's activities, services and operations, with particular emphasis on improving environmental performance, ensuring regulatory compliance and delivering positive environmental and social outcomes.
Working within the Planning & Development section of Estates & Facilities, the post holder will provide professional and technical advice on sustainability matters and will work collaboratively with colleagues across the University, including academic and professional services teams, as well as external agencies and other stakeholders.
The role will have responsibility for the continued development and management of the University's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ensuring that appropriate systems, policies and procedures are maintained to support effective environmental management and compliance.

The post holder will also contribute to the development and delivery of sustainability initiatives associated with the University estate, including new-build and refurbishment projects, environmental standards and assessment schemes, external funding opportunities and opportunities to engage staff and students in sustainability activity.
We are looking for someone with
- A successful track record of planning, leading and organising sustainability activities across a complex, multi-site environment. You will be able to manage competing priorities, resources and deadlines effectively.
- The ability to work collaboratively across professional and functional boundaries to promote and embed sustainability throughout an organisation.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and be able to use a range of communication methods and techniques to ensure effective, appropriate and customer-focused communication with staff, students, senior colleagues and external stakeholders.
