The Role
As a Sustainability Placement Student within the Facilities and Estates Directorate, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience supporting NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Sustainability Team across a diverse range of environmental and sustainability initiatives. Based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital and New Victoria Hospital, with opportunities to work across NHSGGC sites, you will contribute to projects that support environmental compliance, waste management, biodiversity, greenspace development and sustainability communications. This placement offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills while working alongside experienced sustainability professionals and engaging with teams from across Scotland's largest health board. Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Part-time, fixed-term for 18 weeks
- You will be based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital/Administration Building
- Working Pattern: TBC, 4 days per week
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Sustainability Team in delivering environmental management and sustainability initiatives across NHSGGC sites
- Assist with environmental compliance activities, site visits, audits, inspections and annual assurance programmes
- Contribute to waste management, greenspace, biodiversity and clinical sustainability projects
- Support annual sustainability reporting, data collection and environmental performance monitoring
- Assist in the development and promotion of sustainability communications, awareness campaigns and learning materials
- Provide administrative and project support for environmental management systems and legislative compliance activities
- Work collaboratively with departments across the organisation to support sustainable development and environmental best practice

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Currently working towards a degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or a related sustainability discipline
- Student membership of a relevant professional body such as IEMA, CIWEM or an equivalent organisation
- Relevant previous work experience with an interest in sustainability, environmental management or related fields
- Good understanding of environmental management principles, sustainability issues and environmental legislation
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across a large organisation
- Good IT skills with experience using Microsoft Office applications and the ability to analyse and present information effectively
