Sustainability & Social Value Manager
Location: Cardiff – hybrid working
Contract: Seven-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave
Salary: £55,000 per annum, pro rata for the contract duration
The Opportunity
We’re recruiting on behalf of a business operating within the utilities sector, seeking an experienced Sustainability & Social Value Manager to maintain delivery during maternity leave.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across commercial, operations, safety, HR and finance, coordinating activity that supports customer requirements, contractual commitments and sustainability reporting.
The focus is practical delivery across established processes and priorities. You’ll take work from initial requirement through to completion, helping ensure that commitments made during the tender process are carried into contract delivery and supported by accurate data.
The breadth of the role offers exposure to both commercial and operational activity, with opportunities to contribute to ongoing sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop compelling submissions: Lead sustainability, social value and ESG content for tenders, bids and pre-qualification questionnaires, producing clear, evidence-based responses.
- Coordinate social value delivery: Work with operational teams, commercial colleagues and supply partners to deliver contractual commitments and track progress against agreed KPIs.
- Connect bids with delivery: Ensure social value promises made during procurement are understood, monitored and reported once contracts begin.
- Manage reporting and evidence: Collect, validate and analyse sustainability and ESG data, maintaining accurate records that support reporting, assurance and customer due diligence.
- Respond to customer requirements: Coordinate questionnaires and information requests, drawing on expertise from across the business.
- Support practical improvements: Provide specialist advice and contribute to sustainability, decarbonisation and a consistent approach to social value across relevant activities.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Experience delivering or coordinating social value commitments within commercial or contractual environments, including TOMs and platforms such as LOOP, Thrive or similar.
- Demonstrable experience writing sustainability, social value and ESG content for tenders, PQQs and customer submissions.
- Practical sustainability and ESG reporting experience, including responsibility for data, KPIs, evidence and supporting documentation.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex requirements into clear, commercially relevant responses.
- Confidence managing competing deadlines, coordinating input from different teams and taking ownership of work with limited supervision.
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
- You’ll need a careful eye for detail and a pragmatic approach to resolving gaps in information. Being comfortable working independently, while recognising when to seek specialist input, will also be important.

Desirable
- Experience with SECR and the GHG Protocol.
- A background in energy, utilities, infrastructure or another regulated or commercially focused environment.
- Relevant professional membership or qualifications, such as IEMA/ISEP or equivalent.
What’s on Offer
- A £55,000 annual salary, paid pro rata for the contract.
