Job Title: Sustainability Specialist – Nature and Biodiversity
Location: Cambuslang
Salary: from £55,000 to £68,750

Responsible for supporting the SPT Sustainability Manager in the development, implementation and management of the Environmental and Sustainability Strategy within SPT in accordance with its Environmental and Sustainability business plans providing subject specific support to meet our biodiversity and natural capital ambitions alongside nature based solutions for climate change resilience and carbon offsetting.
To maintain and develop Management Systems to support the Company’s goals of Environmental, Social and Economic sustainability
Supporting delivery of the Sustainability and Environmental commitments within the RIIO-T2 £1.8bn and T3 £11bn Capex programmes:
- To the required timescales agreed in the business plan
- Setting strategies plans with all key stakeholders to ensure commitments are met
- Highlighting and addressing any blockers to achieving the commitments to management
- Supporting the delivery of ~£150m of biodiversity enhancement schemes across the SPT Licence area.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the SPT Sustainability Manager and senior management team to monitor the delivery of nature strategy and plans as part of wider Business plans.
- Identifying slippage and gaps to the SPT managment team and proposing remedial actions.
- Building new relationships with the Sustainability Stakeholders to ensure their views are considered in the formulation of investment and SPT operational plans.
- Support the SPT Sustainability Manager in developing nature sustainability goals for SPT ensuring these are deliverable and meet the wider needs and expectations of stakeholders.
- Support the SPT Sustainability Manager in the development of a formal, long-term sustainability and environmental responsibility culture to better embed responsible business practice in wider SPT business activities through close liaison with operational and investment managers as well as corporate functions to devise and deliver training, awareness and coaching to the management population.
- Support the sustainability agenda across the organisation by delivering a comprehensive service to all external and internal stakeholders including participation in working groups and communication of SPT approach.
- Lead standing and ad-hoc working groups on specific sustainability issues. This is likely to involve SP or Iberdrola wide working and potential to become subject matter expert on specific sustainability issues.
- Contribute to a communications and awareness plan targeted at all SPT staff and contractors
- Provide technical expertise to support Directors and the SPT Sustainability Manager.
- Review and verify on Regulatory Reporting Returns prepared by the team prior to final approval by the Sustainability manager.

What you’ll bring
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline. Preferably with or working towards a post graduate qualification in sustainability, environmental or business management.
- Awareness of sustainability requirements for an electricity network operator.
- Demonstrable experience of working in a specialist team and delivering cross business activities.
- Demonstrable experience of liaising, negotiating and influencing at a senior level in business
- In-depth knowledge developments in the sustainability agenda.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in one or more relevant sustainability topics (sustainable design, planning policy, waste, carbon/energy, responsible sourcing, water, biodiversity, building certification)
- Training and coaching skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience
- Strong analytical and rigorous approach to data management
