These synergies help clients achieve cost savings, improved resource management, new product development, and more collaborative supply chains. International Synergies NI also operates a training division that delivers accredited waste management courses and supports businesses in building innovation capabilities. Role Description

The Sustainable Business Practitioner is a full-time role based in Belfast with a hybrid working arrangement, combining on-site client engagement and office work with some work-from-home flexibility.

The practitioner will support businesses in identifying resource efficiency opportunities, including waste reduction, recycling and recovery options, and improvements in water and wastewater management.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Conducting site visits and assessments
  • Gathering and analyzing environmental and operational data
  • Developing practical recommendations for carbon management, net zero action plans, and renewable energy or transport efficiency initiatives

The role involves facilitating Industrial Symbiosis and resource matching opportunities between organizations, preparing reports, case studies, and presentations that clearly communicate benefits and outcomes.

The practitioner will also contribute to training activities, help deliver accredited courses, support innovation projects, and collaborate with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to advance sustainable business practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience or education in sustainability, environmental management, or a related discipline (e.g., waste minimisation, recycling and recovery, water and wastewater treatment).
  • Knowledge of carbon management, net zero action planning, renewable energy, and transport efficiency, with the ability to apply these concepts in a business context.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, including data collection, interpretation, and the ability to develop practical recommendations and action plans.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse organizations, including report writing, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently within a hybrid environment, combining office, client site, and home-based work.
  • Interest or experience in training, facilitation, or adult learning to support delivery of accredited courses and innovation-focused workshops.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, business, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with industrial symbiosis, circular economy principles, or resource matching services.
