Sustainable Sourcing and Animal Welfare Executive - Foodbuy, London or Chertsey (hybrid working) | Full-Time / Permanent

Up to £50,000 + excellent benefits including healthcare, wellbeing support, 23 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, life assurance, and more.

We're looking for a Sustainable Sourcing and Animal Welfare Executive to join the Foodbuy team - a leading food procurement organisation and part of Compass Group UK & Ireland.

About the Role

As Sustainable Sourcing and Animal Welfare Executive you will support the delivery of Foodbuy’s responsible sourcing, animal welfare, sustainability and social value priorities across the food supply chain.

As part of the Technical Compliance function, you’ll bring your expertise in animal welfare, sustainable sourcing and supplier improvement, working closely with the Sustainability, Nutrition, Vendor Assurance, Category and Sourcing teams to support day-to-day delivery.

We're looking for a passionate, sustainable sourcing specialist with a commercial mindset who is looking to create positive impact through responsible procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support delivery of animal welfare strategy, policy, roadmaps and improvement plans across priority categories.
  • Engage suppliers to improve welfare standards, transparency, traceability and responsible sourcing performance.
  • Embed animal welfare, sustainable sourcing and responsible procurement into category strategies, tenders and supplier decisions.
  • Support regenerative agriculture, sustainable farming and Future Farm Framework initiatives across priority commodities.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, NGOs, industry bodies and certification organisations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Deliver sustainability and social value programmes, including supplier engagement, measurable impact and opportunities with SMEs, social enterprises and diverse suppliers.
  • Define and monitor sustainability KPIs, supplier scorecards and improvement plans, turning insights into clear actions.
  • Provide sustainability expertise for customers, tenders, business reviews, workshops and commercial opportunities.
  • Coordinate sustainability data, reporting and evidence, ensuring accuracy and alignment with governance requirements.
  • Develop dashboards, case studies and impact communications that demonstrate sustainability progress, supplier improvements and customer value.

What We're Looking For...

  • Experience in sustainability, responsible sourcing, procurement, food supply chains, agriculture or a related field.
  • Strong expertise in animal welfare, sustainable sourcing and responsible procurement.
  • Ability to translate technical sustainability priorities into practical delivery.
  • Proven experience delivering projects and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working with suppliers on sustainability, compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting complex information.
  • Brilliant analytical, reporting and organisational skills, with attention to data quality and evidence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Collaborative approach to working across functions and teams.
  • Strong customer-facing and commercial awareness, with the ability to communicate sustainability value.

Bonus Skills

  • Knowledge of agricultural commodities and complex food supply chains, with experience across areas such as dairy, beef, coffee or tea.
  • Experience in regenerative agriculture, sustainable farming, nature-related supply chain projects, responsible sourcing or ESG frameworks.
  • Experience in foodservice, retail, hospitality or food manufacturing, with the ability to develop sustainability case studies and customer communications.
