SVO Paint Technician

Location: Gaydon

Join Aston Martin, one of the world's most iconic luxury automotive brands, and become part of our Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Paint team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Paint Technician to contribute to the creation of bespoke, low-volume and special-edition vehicles, delivering the exceptional craftsmanship and flawless finish synonymous with the Aston Martin name.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, painting and polishing components, test samples and complete vehicles. The role also involves the application of graphics, carbon material tinting and specialist finishes, with a strong emphasis on achieving best-in-class paint quality, precision and visual excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing vehicles and components to an exceptional standard, utilising a broad range of materials and preparation techniques to achieve optimum results.
  • Applying advanced surface preparation methods, including fillers and high-build coatings.
  • Inspecting components and vehicles for defects prior to paint application.
  • Carrying out refinishing activities in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Expertise in the application of both water-based and solvent-based paint systems.
  • Experience with a variety of clear coat processes and repair techniques.
  • Undertaking paint repairs ranging from minor refinishing work through to full vehicle paint applications.
  • Consistently delivering show-car quality polishing and finishing standards.
  • Panel repair experience is essential, with the ability to restore and refine surfaces to the highest cosmetic standards.

Key Requirements

  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship in automotive paint refinishing or vehicle repair.
  • Minimum of five years' experience within an automotive, prototype or high-end manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of working with a range of paint systems and manufacturers.
  • Experience preparing and finishing low-volume or prototype panels to Class-A standards.
  • Ability to independently prepare, paint and polish complete vehicles and components to OEM and customer-facing quality requirements.
  • Experience delivering show-car level polishing and finishing is essential.
  • Ability to fill, shape and refine hand-formed or prototype panels to exceptional standards.
  • Additional qualifications such as an HND or equivalent are desirable but not essential.
