SWE Infrastructure Specialist (Java) – Freelance AI Trainer Project
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SWE Infrastructure Specialist (Java) – Freelance AI Trainer Project based in the United Kingdom.
This role offers experienced Java engineers the opportunity to apply their infrastructure expertise to the advancement of next-generation AI systems.
You will contribute to improving how AI models understand enterprise software architectures, distributed systems, and cloud-based environments.
The position combines software engineering, systems analysis, and AI evaluation in a highly technical and research-driven setting.
You will challenge advanced language models with real-world infrastructure scenarios and assess their ability to reason about complex engineering problems.
Your expertise will help improve AI capabilities around scalability, reliability, performance optimization, and production-grade software design.
This is a remote contract opportunity for engineers passionate about shaping the future of AI through technical knowledge and practical experience.
Accountabilities:
- The role focuses on evaluating and improving AI model performance in the context of Java-based software systems, infrastructure design, and enterprise engineering challenges.
- Provide expert feedback, analyze technical reasoning, and help develop stronger AI understanding of complex software environments.
- Engage with advanced AI models on Java-focused infrastructure and platform engineering scenarios.
- Evaluate model-generated solutions for architectural correctness, scalability, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
- Analyze Java application design decisions related to concurrency, latency, throughput, and resource management.
- Review infrastructure approaches involving distributed systems, cloud-native deployments, and enterprise architectures.
- Assess testing strategies, deployment workflows, and reliability practices for Java-based systems.
- Identify and document model weaknesses, incorrect assumptions, and reproducible failure cases.
- Provide structured feedback to improve AI evaluation frameworks and reasoning capabilities.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks, operational risks, and system-level tradeoffs.
- Help define quality standards and benchmarks for AI-generated technical solutions.
- Communicate technical findings clearly through detailed documentation and engineering explanations.

Requirements:
- The ideal candidate has strong Java development experience combined with infrastructure, systems engineering, or cloud expertise.
- You should be comfortable analyzing complex technical problems and clearly explaining architectural decisions and tradeoffs.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- Strong professional experience with Java development and enterprise-grade software systems.
- Hands-on experience with software architecture, distributed systems, or backend engineering.
- Understanding of JVM concepts, application performance, concurrency, and resource optimization.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Familiarity with cloud-native deployments, containerization, and modern software delivery workflows.
- Ability to evaluate system reliability, scalability, and operational risks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to explain complex engineering concepts clearly.
- Experience working with AI-assisted development or evaluating AI-generated technical outputs is a plus.
