About the Role

Serco is pleased to recruit on behalf of Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, a dedicated provider of accessible sport and leisure facilities across the local area.

The Purpose

The role of Swimming Teacher will positively impact individuals of all ages, nurturing confidence and progression through fun aquatic lessons delivered using the Swim England learn to swim framework. Qualified teachers support a harmonious learning environment while fostering both individual and career growth:

  • Flexible working: Align your hours with existing commitments.
  • Support in training/certifications: Free safeguarding training, DBS checks, and onsite coverage for personal insurance throughout employment.
  • Career progression: Evolve with continuous professional development (CPD) via the in-house Aquatic Training Academy. Pathways include advancement to management or coordination roles across 55-plus leisure centres.
  • Membership benefits: Free access to a trust facility for the teacher, plus a reciprocal membership for a friend or family member.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire learners of all ages and backgrounds through engaging, structured lessons
  • Foster safe, progressive swimming development aligned with Swim England guidelines
  • Operate as part of a positives passionate team focused on community well-being
  • Support student success throughout their aquatic journey

Requirements

  • Qualification (essential): STA Award/Certificate in Teaching Swimming or Swim England (Previously ASA) Level 2.
  • Additional (advantageous): A valid RLSS UK NPLQ, NRASTC, or STA Safety Award for Teachers though training for these will be provided free of charge.
  • Attitude: Strong sense of customer service, enthusiasm, and initiative in mentoring diverse groups.
  • A DBS check will be required for this role.
