Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Synchronisation Engineer to join our power generation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commissioning, testing, maintenance, and optimisation of generator synchronisation systems, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of generator sets in parallel with mains electrical infrastructure.

This role plays a vital part in delivering resilient power solutions across a variety of sectors, including industrial, commercial, critical infrastructure, and standby power applications. The Synchronisation Engineer will work closely with customers, project teams, and electrical contractors to ensure systems are installed, commissioned, and maintained to the highest standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Commission and configure generator synchronisation and load-sharing control systems.
  • Carry out synchronisation testing of generator sets operating in parallel with mains supplies and other generation assets.
  • Configure and fault-find control systems, PLCs, protection relays, and communication networks associated with power generation equipment.
  • Perform factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and final commissioning activities.
  • Verify and adjust protection settings including overcurrent, reverse power, frequency, voltage, and mains protection functions.
  • Support the installation and integration of generators, switchgear, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and power management systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system faults to minimise downtime and ensure operational reliability.
  • Conduct planned preventative maintenance and system health checks on synchronisation equipment and associated infrastructure.
  • Produce detailed commissioning reports, test records, and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), customers, and project stakeholders where required.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers and operational teams.
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes and commissioning procedures.
  • Participate in emergency call-out support and fault response activities when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, environmental, and quality management requirements.

The Person

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Installation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • Previous experience with generators is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including engines and alternators.
  • Willing to work overtime, including some mid-week, weekend shifts, and occasional overnight stays.
  • Flexible to take part in an on-call rota when required.
  • Confident in carrying out risk assessments and working safely on-site.
  • Prior experience in a mobile engineering role is advantageous.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with a wide range of customers.
  • Strong communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
