Assistant Syndicate Accountant
Location: London | Work Arrangement: Hybrid
An established Lloyd’s / London Market insurance business is looking for an Assistant Syndicate Accountant to join its finance team, with a strong focus on Lloyd’s reporting, regulatory returns, and syndicate accounting.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Lloyd’s market experience who wants to develop their technical accounting knowledge and gain further exposure to the full syndicate reporting cycle.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely Lloyd’s returns and financial reporting, ensuring deadlines and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and supporting Lloyd’s regulatory returns and reporting submissions.
- Ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and supported by a clear audit trail.
- Preparing journals and completing monthly and year-end accounting processes.
- Performing detailed balance sheet and Lloyd’s-related reconciliations, investigating, and resolving differences.
- Supporting syndicate financial reporting and annual accounts.
- Assisting with the preparation of management accounts and related reporting schedules.
- Working closely with underwriting and operational teams to investigate financial variances and resolve reporting issues.
- Supporting external audit activity and responding to information requests.
- Maintaining clear documentation and evidence for reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, and efficiencies.

About You

We’re looking for someone with:
- Previous experience within the Lloyd’s or London Market insurance sector.
- Practical experience of Lloyd’s returns, reporting requirements, and syndicate accounting.
- Good understanding of insurance and reinsurance transactions and how these flow through to the general ledger.
- Strong reconciliation and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to tight regulatory deadlines.
- Good knowledge of Lloyd’s systems and reporting requirements.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- An accountancy qualification or progress towards one would be advantageous.
