Syndicate Financial Controller

The Opportunity
An established Lloyd’s Managing Agency is seeking an experienced Syndicate Financial Controller to join its Finance function. This is a key role within the organisation, responsible for the day-to-day financial control and Finance operations across the managing agency and its managed syndicates. You will take ownership of the financial close, trial balance, balance-sheet integrity, non-technical result, treasury oversight and associated financial control framework.
The organisation is continuing to grow its managed syndicate and SPA portfolio, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced insurance finance professional to join a developing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day Finance operations, including treasury, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, ledger controls and reconciliations.
- Own and deliver the financial close timetable across the managing agency and managed syndicates.
- Deliver the trial balance, supporting analysis and timely review of financial results.
- Own the non-technical result and associated financial controls.
- Work closely with Technical Accounting and Regulatory Reporting teams to support accurate and controlled financial reporting.
- Ensure assets and liabilities are appropriately recognised and measured in accordance with applicable UK GAAP and Solvency UK requirements.
- Maintain robust balance-sheet substantiation, reconciliations and review evidence.
- Oversee treasury controls, cash-flow and liquidity reporting.
- Develop and maintain the financial control framework and relevant processes.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring evidence and responses are delivered on time.
- Lead Finance projects, process improvements and reporting-acceleration initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Finance and wider business stakeholders to identify and resolve accounting, reporting and control issues.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Finance risk and control environment.

About You

You will be a fully qualified accountant with relevant post-qualification experience within the Lloyd’s market or a comparable insurance environment. You should have:
- Strong knowledge of syndicate accounting and financial close processes.
- Experience with balance-sheet control and technical/non-technical insurance results.
- Good knowledge of UK GAAP, Solvency UK and Lloyd’s reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to review and challenge financial and underwriting information.
- Experience covering treasury, liquidity, audit and financial controls.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively to demanding deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Sound judgement, resilience and a high level of professional integrity.
