Systems Engineer
Contract
£700-750 per day (inside IR35)
Location: London
Days on site: 3-4 days per week

Core Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, maintain, and configure multiple production databases, including performing ad hoc queries and troubleshooting issues.
- Provide first, second, and third-line support across a range of full-stack applications and services, applying analytical skills to undertake problem resolution and address technical issues.
- Administer and maintain Linux and Windows virtual machines, with a strong focus on vulnerability management and system hardening.
- Leverage automation tools to provision, configure, and manage virtual infrastructure.
- Deploy, configure, and support shared production services, including identity brokers and observability platforms.
- Execute Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes to ingest and process data from cross-domain sources.
- Develop and utilise scripts to perform operational tasks and improve efficiency across customer platforms.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with operational standards and ethical practices.

Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) database administration, following industry best practices.
- Hands-on experience with identity brokers and modern authentication/authorisation mechanisms (e.g., JSON Web Tokens, PKI).
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible for Linux provisioning and configuration management.
- Experience working with containerisation technologies including Docker and Docker Compose.
- Proficiency in administering and maintaining headless Linux virtual machines in production environments.
- Demonstrates a proactive approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and navigate ambiguity effectively.
- Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Preferred:
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and system integration.
- Experience managing Windows IIS servers.
- Experience using Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) to support Agile development and documentation practices.
- Knowledge of Keycloak, Grafana, Elasticsearch, and NiFi.
