Client Deployment Role Description

Albany Beck is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer II to support a client deployment focused on the design, implementation and ongoing management of cloud infrastructure across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The role will involve building scalable and highly available cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code, with a strong emphasis on Terraform, Ansible, cloud automation, security and operational reliability.

You will work closely with development and engineering teams to ensure infrastructure supports application requirements, performance goals and security standards across development, staging and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain cloud infrastructure across GCP and AWS.
  • Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules and configurations for multiple cloud environments.
  • Create and manage Ansible playbooks for configuration management, application deployment and system automation.
  • Architect scalable, resilient and highly available cloud solutions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with application and performance requirements.
  • Monitor cloud resources and implement improvements around performance, availability and cost optimisation.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security controls, governance standards and compliance frameworks.
  • Design and support disaster recovery and business continuity solutions within cloud environments.
  • Automate routine operational activities through scripting and infrastructure automation.
  • Support incident response and troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure and systems issues.
  • Design and implement cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, load balancers and connectivity solutions.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation covering infrastructure architecture, operational procedures and troubleshooting guidance.

Key Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years' experience within cloud infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, systems administration or a similar role.
  • Strong hands-on experience across both Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Strong knowledge of core GCP services including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, Cloud SQL and Cloud Functions.
  • Strong knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, EKS, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS and Lambda.
  • Advanced experience using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong experience with Ansible for configuration management, automation and orchestration.
  • Strong Linux/Unix systems administration knowledge.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals and cloud networking concepts.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and their integration with infrastructure automation.
  • Good knowledge of cloud security best practices, security tooling and compliance requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Administration or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable Experience

  • Google Cloud certification such as Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer.
  • AWS certification such as AWS Solutions Architect or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tooling including Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch or Google Cloud Operations Suite.
  • Knowledge of GitOps principles and tooling such as ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Experience with service mesh technologies including Istio or Anthos Service Mesh.
  • Experience working within regulated environments and exposure to frameworks such as PCI DSS.
  • Experience with cloud database administration and performance tuning.
  • Understanding of cloud cost optimisation and FinOps practices.
  • Experience with log management platforms such as the ELK Stack or Google Cloud Logging.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud backup and disaster recovery solutions.
