Systems Engineer

Our client is a world-leading engineering and technology organisation specialising in the design and delivery of advanced subsea systems, sensors, instrumentation and communications technology. Their solutions are trusted globally across defence, offshore energy, ocean science and renewable sectors, helping customers operate in some of the world's most challenging environments. They are renowned for engineering excellence, innovation and the successful delivery of highly complex, mission-critical technology projects.

They are looking for a Systems Engineer to join a specialist custom projects team responsible for delivering complex subsea systems and instrumentation solutions for customers across defence, offshore energy, ocean science and renewable energy markets.

Working closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will take ownership of the technical development of bespoke systems from concept through to delivery. This role offers exposure to the complete engineering lifecycle, including requirements capture, design, verification, validation, integration, testing and customer acceptance.

This position would suit an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, engaging directly with customers and coordinating activities across software, electronics, mechanical and systems engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical activities throughout the full project lifecycle from concept development through to system delivery.
  • Define system requirements and technical solutions through direct engagement with customers, project teams and engineering specialists.
  • Support technical proposals, project planning, engineering estimates and resource planning activities.
  • Develop and oversee verification, validation, integration and testing activities across hardware, software and firmware systems.
  • Manage technical risks and resolve system-level integration challenges.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation including specifications, reports, procedures and technical proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards and internal governance processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering guidance throughout project delivery.
  • Build strong customer relationships and act as a trusted technical representative.

Skills & Experience

We're keen to hear from engineers with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Systems Engineering
  • Product Development
  • Technical Project Delivery
  • Integration, Verification & Validation
  • Defence, Marine, Offshore or Complex Engineering Systems
  • Requirements Management
  • Customer-Facing Engineering Roles
  • Technical Risk Management

You'll also have:

  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • An understanding of software engineering principles.
  • An appreciation of mechanical and/or electronic engineering concepts.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Desirable experience includes:

  • CAD tools
  • JIRA or similar project/task management systems
  • Commercial awareness and business case understanding

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Communications, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
