System Engineer - Land CEMA (All Levels)

System Engineer – Land Cyber & Electromagnetic Activities

Want to help shape the future of defence in the electromagnetic battlespace? We are looking for talented and motivated System Engineers (at all levels) to join our growing Land Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) business.

At Leonardo, you’ll contribute to the development of innovative, cutting-edge capabilities for UK and export customers while benefiting from flexible working arrangements that support a healthy balance between business requirements and individual needs.

Your Impact

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of defence technology, contributing directly to advanced solutions that enhance operational effectiveness in complex and contested electromagnetic environments. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will play a key role in defining, developing, and delivering next-generation defence systems.

Working closely with customers, partners, and stakeholders, you will apply your expertise across the full system lifecycle, from requirements definition and solution development through to integration, verification, and in-service support.

You will contribute directly to some of the UK’s most advanced land-based defence capabilities, including:

  • Land Electronic Warfare
  • Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS)
  • Next-generation Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RC-IED) equipment

These systems enable military users to exploit the electromagnetic spectrum to generate operational advantage on the modern battlefield while protecting friendly forces.

What You’ll Bring

Proven experience as a Systems Engineer within a working environment or advanced academic research experience. Ideally, you will have:

  • A science-based Honours degree or equivalent experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
