Systems Engineer – Quantum Infrastructure

Are you an Infrastructure or Systems Engineer looking for something genuinely different? My client is building some of the world's most advanced quantum computing technology and is looking for a Systems Engineer to help design, build and support the critical infrastructure that powers production-scale quantum computers. This is not a traditional IT support or infrastructure role. You'll be working at the intersection of enterprise infrastructure, automation, networking and cutting-edge scientific hardware, collaborating with world-class engineers, physicists and software developers.

The Role

You'll play a key role in designing, deploying and maintaining the infrastructure behind highly specialised quantum computing systems, working across Linux, Windows, virtualisation, networking, automation and hardware integration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining production infrastructure
  • Configuring Linux and Windows servers
  • Integrating specialist scientific hardware with enterprise infrastructure
  • Managing networking across laboratory and production environments
  • Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code
  • Automating server deployment and configuration
  • Supporting Kubernetes-based platforms
  • Troubleshooting both infrastructure and hardware issues
  • Working closely with DevOps Engineers, Software Engineers and Quantum Physicists

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Windows Server
  • Kubernetes
  • Dell PowerEdge (R660/R760) Servers
  • VMware / Virtualisation
  • Terraform
  • Ansible

  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Enterprise Networking (Cisco, Aruba, Arista)

Alongside traditional infrastructure you'll also work with specialist laboratory equipment including lasers, scientific cameras, sensors and custom hardware.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for engineers who enjoy building robust, automated infrastructure rather than simply supporting it.

You'll ideally have experience with:

  • Linux administration
  • Windows Server
  • Infrastructure Engineering
  • Kubernetes
  • VMware or virtualisation
  • Terraform, Ansible and Infrastructure as Code
  • Automation and scripting
  • Enterprise networking
  • Hardware integration or server deployment

We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience owning and supporting production environments over the long term, rather than purely project-based consultancy work. Experience building resilient, repeatable infrastructure and managing systems throughout their lifecycle will be highly valued.

Hands-on experience with physical server hardware, hardware installation, integration and troubleshooting is also important, as this role combines software, infrastructure and real-world engineering.

Experience within scientific research, advanced manufacturing, defence, high-performance computing or similar technical environments would be advantageous but isn't essential.

Why Join?

Very few engineering roles offer the opportunity to work on technology that's changing the future of computing.

You'll be joining an organisation where you'll:

  • Help build production quantum computers
  • Work alongside world-leading scientists and engineers
  • Solve unique infrastructure and automation challenges
  • Influence the design of next-generation infrastructure
  • Work with cutting-edge technologies in a highly collaborative engineering culture
  • Enjoy excellent facilities, catered lunches and a modern working environment

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems and wants to work on technology that very few organisations worldwide are developing.
