Functional Systems Engineer – Verification & Certification
Location: Bristol
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Functional Systems Engineer Certification to join a leading defence engineering organisation supporting the development, verification, and certification of advanced weapon system capabilities.
This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in ensuring complex systems meet defined requirements and certification standards. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to analyse technical evidence, manage requirements, identify verification gaps, and support the successful delivery of customer programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support verification and certification activities across complex defence engineering programmes
- Capture, review, and assess technical evidence against defined requirements
- Conduct technical investigations and support the delivery of certification activities
- Review technical documentation and functional evidence
- Review and agree Design Verification Plans (DVP)
- Support design reconciliation activities associated with engineering changes and obsolescence
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering

What We're Looking For:
- Experience using IBM Rational DOORS Classic
- Proven ability to analyse technical evidence and assess compliance against requirements
- Knowledge and experience of Verification & Validation (V&V) processes and methodologies
- Experience preparing compliance documentation and certification evidence
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to wider engineering and certification activities
- Experience within a defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated engineering environment would be beneficial.
