System Integration & Test Engineer

Contract Opportunity - Inside IR35
Hourly Rate: FLEXIBLE
Location: Cambridge (3 days on site)
Duration: 1 Year (Possible extension)

Please note, no sponsorship is being offered for this role unfortunately, so please only apply if you have valid right to work in UK and are happy commuting to Cambridge 3 days per week.

We are looking for a hands-on System Integration & Test Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Product and Platform team working on complex embedded and IoT systems.

The role will involve defining test plans and test cases, creating test setups, executing manual testing, and hands-on debugging of complex systems across embedded software and electronics.

You will work closely with system engineers, embedded software developers, hardware engineers, integration engineers, and backend and frontend teams. The role will also involve collaboration with teams based overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define detailed test plans and test cases.
  • Define testing setups and take a hands-on approach to their creation and implementation.
  • Execute manual testing and produce clear test reports.
  • Perform hands-on debugging of complex systems, with a particular focus on embedded and electronics aspects as part of the wider solution.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary Product and Platform teams, including system engineering, embedded software, hardware, integration, backend and frontend teams.
  • Work effectively within a multi-site, matrix organisation.
  • Quickly understand new technologies, concepts and technical constraints.
  • Contribute to a structured and systematic approach to testing, integration and failure investigation.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering or higher.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in multidisciplinary system integration, covering hardware, firmware and software.
  • Experience defining test plans and test design documentation.
  • Experience debugging complex embedded systems.
  • Experience with protocol testing over RF and wired interfaces.
  • Ability to understand complex IoT systems, including RF communications and hardware interfaces.
  • Experience troubleshooting using standard test equipment.
  • Strong technical comprehension and the ability to quickly understand new terms, technologies and concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with test definition, test setup ramp-up and failure debugging.

Desirable:

  • Experience testing GPS systems.
  • Experience with RF communication technologies such as BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE-M and LoRa.
  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure for IoT devices.
  • Experience using the Atlassian suite and/or Azure DevOps.
  • Coding capabilities, particularly Python.
