Systems Accountant and Financial Modeller

Description

We are seeking a Systems Accountant and Financial Modeller to join WM Trains.

Working as the subject matter expert for key finance systems, you will drive system improvements, ensure data integrity, provide financial modelling and analytical support across the business.

Partnering with finance teams, budget owners and external providers, you will lead process enhancements and deliver valuable insights that support decision-making.

This is a varied and impactful role that combines finance systems expertise with commercial and strategic support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support for finance systems, resolving issues and managing system integrations.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, reporting tools, and planning systems, including Oracle EPBCS.
  • Drive improvements and automation across finance systems, processes, and reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to inform business decision-making.
  • Lead finance system projects and provide technical financial guidance to stakeholders across the business.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
  • Experience in financial systems, financial modelling, and commercial or analytical finance roles.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to develop and maintain complex financial models.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement skills, with the ability to identify and implement efficiencies.
  • Highly skilled in communication and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to influence senior leaders and convey complex financial matters clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

To ensure continuity and an effective delivery of service, successful candidates will be required to commit to a minimum 14-month period in role after achieving competence. This also includes existing colleagues who move by internal promotions and transfers. This time allows our future colleagues to support personal career development by allowing time to build strong knowledge and expertise.
