Interim Systems Accountant | Cumbria | 6-Month Contract | Day rate negotiable | Hybrid
We're supporting a business undergoing a period of finance and systems improvement as they look to appoint an experienced Interim Systems Accountant.
This is a hands-on assignment for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complex environments, improving controls and solving problems that have been sitting unresolved for too long.
The finance leadership team has identified several key priorities across reporting, reconciliations, controls and system development. They are looking for an experienced qualified accountant who can quickly get under the skin of the business, take ownership of projects and deliver lasting improvements.
A significant part of the role will involve acting as the finance lead on ongoing Workday developments, ensuring finance requirements are properly understood and embedded into future reporting and system design.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
