Position Description
We are seeking a Software Engineer (Systems) to join our Systems & Controls team in Leeds. In this role you will be part of a highly skilled team that are responsible for design, development, testing, and supporting deployment of software control strategies that govern high-efficiency & market leading HVAC and BMS solutions for critical Data Centre environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Software Development & Strategy Design: Design, develop, and code robust control system strategies for HVAC applications across industry-standard platforms, including Carel (1tool, c.suite, STOne), Trend (SET, IQ), CoDeSys, and Allen Bradley Studio 5000.
- Testing & Simulation: Validate and simulate software using functional test benches prior to deployment; conduct end-to-end testing on operational units during production.
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT): Lead and conduct Controls FAT witness testing alongside customers, consultants, and R&D teams to verify system functionality and sequence of operations.
- Engineering Documentation: Author and maintain comprehensive technical project documentation, including Control Philosophies, Descriptions of Operation (Des Ops), Functional Test Scripts, BMS Points Lists, FMEA reports, and O&M manuals.
- Commissioning & Site Support: Attend internal and external client/site meetings to establish project scope, verify correct field operation during commissioning, and deliver escalated technical support to field engineers and clients.
- Mentorship & Development: Actively support the growth of the team by training and mentoring junior software engineers and apprentices.
- Continuous Improvement: Collaborate closely with R&D and project delivery teams to incorporate next-generation technologies, improve system reliability, and standardise control routines.

Required Education & Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Controls, Software, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent science discipline); OR
- A recognised apprenticeship in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, or Building Services with strong electrical/mechanical HVAC knowledge and demonstrable software programming aptitude.
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, and cooling/heating operating cycles.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control diagrams.
- Basic understanding of IT architecture, server environments, and industrial communication networks.
- Working knowledge of standard BMS/DCIM protocols, including Modbus (RTU/TCP), BACnet (IP/MSTP), and TCP/IP.
- Logical, methodical approach to troubleshooting and complex problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interface effectively with clients, contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Hands-on programming experience with one or more of the following controllers: Carel pCO / c.pCO family using 1tool or c.suite Trend IQ3 / IQ4 controllers using Trend SET PLCs running CoDeSys / Structured Text Rockwell / Allen Bradley Studio 5000 Tridium Niagara Framework (AX / N4)
- Experience conducting or witnessing customer-facing FAT/SAT tests.
- Valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety passport.
