About the role
National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of the UK’s transition to a net zero energy future. We operate a growing portfolio of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to neighbouring markets, enabling the secure import and export of energy. Alongside our existing assets, we are developing new projects to ensure we can meet the UK’s future demand for cleaner, more resilient energy solutions.
We're currently recruiting for a Systems and Cyber Asset Manager to join our team at IFA1 based at Sellindge.
At IFA1, based in Sellindge, you’ll join a team responsible for the security, resilience, and compliance of critical operational systems and networks that underpin interconnector operations.
As a Systems and Cyber Asset Manager, you will lead a specialist team accountable for managing and securing key operational technology (OT) systems, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
The role is based on site at IFA1 in Sellindge, Kent. To be considered for the role, please note we require candidates to live within an hour of site with a full UK driving licence.
What you'll do
- Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team of system, cyber asset management, and OT engineering professionals
- Owning and managing all systems and cyber assets at the IFA1 site, ensuring they operate securely and reliably in line with business, regulatory, and legislative requirements (including NIS regulations)
- Interpreting central cyber, engineering, and assurance policies and implementing them effectively across the IFA1 interconnector and control room environments
- Driving a strong culture of continuous improvement and cybersecurity awareness across the team
- Ensuring safe systems of work are developed and adhered to as a non-negotiable priority
- Managing system performance across hardware, networks, and supporting infrastructure (e.g. power, HVAC), ensuring no operational impact
- Overseeing lifecycle management, including asset replacement, supplier performance, spares, and the initiation of projects or tenders to maintain resilience and compliance
- Coordinating outages and routine maintenance activities to ensure safe and successful delivery
- Leading incident response and disaster recovery preparedness, ensuring robust testing and readiness across the team
- Managing supplier performance, budgets, and compliance to required quality and regulatory standards
- Supporting assurance, audit activities, and regulatory reporting, working with internal SMEs and stakeholders
- Producing reports and insights for internal forums (e.g. Asset Excellence, Cyber forums) and external/regulatory stakeholders
- Supporting delivery of works across the wider Interconnectors portfolio (IFA, IFA2, NSL, Viking Link) as required
- Participating in a site call-out rota and supporting live operational incidents when necessary

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
