Senior Systems Design Engineer – Gloucestershire

We’re seeking a Senior Systems Design Engineer to play a key role in shaping systems that support critical defence projects.

  • Outside IR35
  • 6 Month Contract
  • Some days on site near Tewkesbury

About the Role

Take ownership of system design activities from concept through to qualification.

  • Interpret technical requirements, create robust hardware designs, and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Preparing detailed design documentation, supporting prototype builds, engaging with suppliers, and driving improvements across processes and tools.

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent experience in a similar role (DEFSTAN-0035 REQUIRED)
  • Proven ability to design hardware within a systems engineering framework—experience in defence, aerospace, or industrial sectors is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, electronic, and computing systems.
  • Experience developing solutions for demanding conditions (shock, vibration, thermal extremes).
  • Solid understanding of EMC principles and mechanical engineering fundamentals.
