Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester

Rate: £450–£550 per day
Duration: Contract

We are currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer to join a major global organisation operating within a highly complex technology environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a cloud infrastructure professional with strong multi-cloud, automation and Infrastructure as Code experience.
As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure across both AWS and GCP. You will work closely with engineering and development teams to build secure, scalable and highly available infrastructure while driving automation and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Design, implement and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP.
- Develop and maintain Terraform modules and configurations across development, staging and production environments.
- Create and manage Ansible playbooks for configuration management, deployment and system automation.
- Design and implement highly available, scalable and secure cloud solutions.
- Work closely with development teams to ensure infrastructure meets application, performance and reliability requirements.
- Monitor cloud resources, troubleshoot infrastructure issues and identify opportunities for performance and cost optimisation.
- Implement cloud security controls, governance, compliance and disaster recovery solutions.
- Automate operational processes using Bash, Python and other scripting technologies.
- Participate in incident response and resolve complex infrastructure and production issues.
- Design and maintain cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, load balancers, routing and connectivity.
- Maintain clear infrastructure documentation, operational procedures and troubleshooting guides.

About You
We are looking for a Systems Engineer with strong hands-on experience across cloud infrastructure, automation and systems administration.
You should have:
- 3+ years' experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, systems engineering or systems administration.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and GCP.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services including EC2, EKS, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS and Lambda.
- Strong knowledge of GCP services including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, Cloud SQL and Cloud Functions.
- Advanced Terraform experience, including developing and maintaining reusable modules.
- Extensive Ansible experience.
- Strong Linux/Unix systems administration skills.
- Solid networking fundamentals and experience designing cloud networks.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong scripting skills using Bash and/or Python.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
- Understanding of cloud security, IAM, compliance and governance.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- AWS or Google Cloud professional-level certifications.
- Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch or Google Cloud Operations Suite.
- GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Service mesh technologies including Istio or Anthos Service Mesh.
- Experience working within regulated environments and knowledge of PCI DSS.
- Database administration and performance tuning.
- Cloud cost optimisation and FinOps.
- ELK, Cloud Logging or other centralised logging platforms.
- Microservices and distributed systems.
- Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
