Overview

Stirling Dynamics is recruiting an experienced Flight Control Systems Engineer to join our team. Due to recent contract wins and supporting continued growth, Stirling Dynamics are looking for a talented Systems Engineer with Flight Control Systems experience to join our Systems & Safety team supporting key aerospace projects in the civil aerospace and eVTOL markets.

Work at Stirling is not simply restricted to aerospace projects, due to our expertise and scope of supply, our engineers have the opportunity to work within aerospace and marine industries on many different projects such as our own products (flight controls and simulator controls), landing gear design, control system design and expert consultancy/support for our customers.

These roles will be based in our Bristol office with occasional travel to our clients’ sites as required. However, as part of our commitment to flexible working, we also accept hybrid working.

Responsibilities

As part of the Systems & Safety team, our Systems Engineers are responsible for the delivery of systems support to our business and our clients which includes activities such as:

  • Leading task identification and definition within the context of the project
  • Engaging with customers to understand technical requirements and to deliver results
  • Supporting design, development & certification activities including V&V (Validation and Verification)
  • Preparation and checking of documentation for the design process
  • Running/supporting/attending internal/external design reviews
  • Supporting certification planning activities, test analysis and documentation
  • Supporting system and equipment level modifications
  • Working to resolve in-service issues
  • Preparation and review of task scope, budget, and schedule for given tasks and projects
  • Assigning tasks for projects and coordinating/monitoring the work of other engineers
  • Identifying project technical risks and proposing mitigations
  • Acting as technical reviewer as part of the DOA within their technical area of expertise
  • Reviewing completed project documents for conformity and quality assurance
  • Assisting upper-level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor
  • Preparing technical proposals

Qualifications

Candidates will ideally be degree qualified in a related discipline.

Essential Skills

Specific skills/experience should include some of the following:

  • Fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft flight control systems and equipment (ATA-27)
  • Equipment/system design, development and/or certification for civil aircraft (CS-23, -25, SC-VTOL)
  • Fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft equipment/system design and development
  • Experience of DO178B/DO254 Software/Hardware design
  • Knowledge of ARP4754 – Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems
  • Requirements creation and management inc. industry recognised tools such as DOORS, Jama, Polarion, Cameo
  • Awareness of industry requirements / specifications such as RTCA, SAE, TSO, ARINC, etc
  • Working within a quality system environment, such as AS9100, ISO9001
  • Ability to lead activities within a team, work package creation, management, and delivery
