Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have practical experience supporting Microsoft-based infrastructure and workplace services in an operational setting. A working knowledge of Windows Server administration, core Active Directory concepts, and foundational experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 is essential. Familiarity with Windows endpoint environments, including Intune and Configuration Manager, is required. Candidates should possess a structured, methodical approach to troubleshooting and incident resolution, with a good understanding of ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, including accurate ticket and change management.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for effective documentation and collaboration. The ability to work a 24x7 shift pattern, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, is mandatory. Candidates must also be eligible for UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance. Additional desirable skills include exposure to virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V, monitoring tools such as LogicMonitor, basic scripting with PowerShell, and awareness of operational security controls like ISO27001. Certifications such as Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, or Endpoint Administrator Associate are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide second-line support across Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and virtualization platforms to ensure service continuity and performance.
• Support Microsoft Modern Workplace services, including Windows client OS, Intune, Configuration Manager, and device compliance policies, ensuring optimal configuration and security.
• Resolve incidents efficiently, fulfill service requests, and implement approved changes following ITIL processes and operational standards to maintain high service quality.
• Perform routine patching, backup checks, endpoint updates, and configuration tasks using predefined runbooks and tooling to ensure system integrity.
• Utilize monitoring, event management, and CMDB data to support effective triage, diagnosis, and resolution activities, minimizing downtime.
• Maintain accurate, timely updates within ServiceNow, including tickets, change records, and configuration items to ensure comprehensive documentation.
• Participate actively in shift handovers, providing clear communication to ensure continuity of service and awareness of ongoing issues or actions.
• Identify recurring issues, procedural gaps, or monitoring noise, and escalate improvement opportunities through appropriate channels.
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of knowledge articles, runbooks, and operational documentation to support team knowledge sharing and process consistency.
• Collaborate with Senior Engineers and Squad Managers, seeking guidance when necessary and supporting team objectives to deliver high-quality service.
