About The Role
Fortress Recruit is now looking for a talented Systems Engineer to join a leading defence organisation as part of their growing engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge systems used across global naval and defence programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering advanced systems, managing the full lifecycle from requirements gathering to customer delivery, and supporting innovative product development initiatives. This position provides a unique chance to contribute to high-profile defence projects, influence future product designs, and work within a collaborative environment dedicated to engineering excellence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline, or have equivalent industry experience. Prior experience working within the full lifecycle of Systems Engineering is essential, including requirements development, design, integration, verification, and delivery. Candidates should have a strong ability to produce and review high-quality technical documentation, demonstrate a logical approach to systems thinking and problem solving, and possess knowledge of electrical system design and engineering documentation. Experience with engineering configuration control and change management is highly desirable. Familiarity with electrical CAD software such as SolidWorks Electrical or DraftSight will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates must be eligible to obtain SC clearance, which requires five years of UK residency without visa or sponsorship requirements.

Responsibilities
- Leading the technical delivery of customer projects across the full systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring compliance with client specifications and industry standards.
- Acting as the technical authority for system designs, providing guidance and support to multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution.
- Developing, reviewing, and maintaining system requirements, technical documentation, and engineering baselines to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Supporting system architecture development, integration, verification, and customer acceptance activities to ensure seamless implementation and performance.
- Leading technical and design reviews, working closely with customers to gather feedback and ensure project milestones are met.
- Supporting product redesign activities, system architecture development, and contributing to future technology roadmaps to enhance product capabilities.
- Collaborating with software, electronics, mechanical, and production engineers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions that meet project specifications.
- Managing engineering change processes, configuration control, and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation including cable drawings and system schematics.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, product development, and the adoption of engineering best practices to optimize project outcomes.
- Providing technical support to international engineering teams as the business expands its global footprint.
