About our Team
The Mendeley Infrastructure team is responsible for designing, operating, and continuously improving the cloud infrastructure that powers Mendeley, a platform serving millions of researchers and healthcare professionals globally. We manage AWS-based environments that support critical research workflows and drive innovation in scholarly research.
Our team values engineering excellence, collaboration, and automation. We're passionate about Infrastructure as Code, modern cloud architecture, and building reliable, secure, and scalable systems. You'll work with experienced engineers who are committed to operational excellence and continuous improvement, while having the autonomy to own moderately complex infrastructure initiatives.
About the Role
As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the design, operation, and continuous improvement of cloud-based enterprise environments. Working independently on moderately complex initiatives, you will help build reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure while supporting operational excellence across multiple environments.
This role offers the opportunity to work with cloud technologies, automation, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices, while collaborating closely with development, support, and platform teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions within established architectural guidelines
- Respond to and assist in diagnosing system management alerts and operational exceptions, escalating where appropriate
- Apply and advocate infrastructure best practices within the team
- Contribute to scripts, automation, and Infrastructure as Code development
- Participate in change management processes, ensuring changes are properly documented, tested, and executed
- Collaborate closely with development, support, and platform teams
- Assist in daily support of assigned systems and products through proactive monitoring and early detection of issues
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain cloud infrastructure components across multiple environments

Requirements
- Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
- Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python, or similar technologies
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Familiarity with system monitoring tools such as New Relic or similar
- Knowledge of change and incident management processes
- Good oral and written communication skills
