Systems Engineer | Greater Manchester (Hybrid) | £40,000 - £50,000
A fantastic client of ours is looking for a Systems Engineer to join a small, close-knit IT team in Manchester city centre. This is primarily a systems and infrastructure role where you'll have real ownership over business-critical platforms, assuring reliability, security, and performance are at the heart of what you'll be doing. Development experience is a bonus too!
What you'll be doing:
- Maintaining the availability, stability, and performance of core systems working towards 24/7 reliability
- Supporting and administering virtualisation and cloud platforms including Proxmox and AWS
- Managing networking fundamentals, firewall management, and security
- Administering Linux and Windows servers, Nginx, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365
- Monitoring system health and responding to incidents
- Contributing to backup and resilience planning
- Providing occasional support and bug fixes across existing applications as priorities allow

You'll need:
- Solid hands-on experience administering Linux servers in a production environment
- Practical experience with a virtualisation or cloud platform such as Proxmox, AWS, or similar
- Working knowledge of core networking concepts and firewall management
- Comfortable owning problems end-to-end in a small team environment
- Exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365

Bonus points for:
- Scripting or development ability in PHP, JavaScript, or Python
- Exposure to GCP or Firebase
