Position Description
At CGI, we're helping shape the future of the UK space industry, delivering innovative systems engineering solutions that support critical space programmes and strengthen national capabilities. As a Systems Engineer within our Space business, you'll contribute to complex, mission-critical projects, applying systems thinking and cutting-edge technologies to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing solutions. You'll take ownership of meaningful engineering challenges, bring creative ideas to life, and collaborate with multidisciplinary experts to solve complex problems. Supported by CGI's extensive space and technology expertise, collaborative culture, and commitment to professional development, you'll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, expand your capabilities, and make a lasting impact on the future of space systems and services.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position, based in Leatherhead, Reading, or London.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will help design, develop, and assure complex systems supporting CGI's Space business, contributing to programmes where reliability, security, and operational performance are essential. Working across the full systems engineering lifecycle, you'll translate business, mission, and operational requirements into robust technical solutions, from early concept development and systems architecture through to integration, verification, and validation.
You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, technical specialists, and clients to tackle challenging engineering problems, explore innovative approaches, and improve the delivery of complex space-related capabilities. Whether applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), developing system architectures, or supporting critical technical decisions, you'll have the opportunity to influence outcomes and take ownership of your contributions. You'll be supported by a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and career progression.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
