About The Role

Be part of a team delivering the next generation of secure military communications satellites for the UK Ministry of Defence. This work provides resilient, high-performance connectivity for the UK, its allies and Defence personnel worldwide, playing a critical role in protecting national security as space becomes more contested and demand for secure data continues to grow. Joining Lockheed Martin also means helping to shape significant investment in the North East space sector, with more than £100 million proposed to support high skill jobs, advanced manufacturing and long term economic growth. The Role

This is an opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical Ground Segment systems that underpin advanced defence and aerospace capabilities. The role sits within a highly skilled engineering team responsible for delivering integrated ground solutions that enable secure, resilient, and high-performance operations. It offers exposure to full lifecycle systems engineering, technical ownership of key activities, and the opportunity to contribute to programmes of national importance.

The role is responsible for technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness assessments across total systems. Work spans the full lifecycle, including concept development, design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the structured and logical translation of customer and system requirements into integrated technical solutions that meet performance, schedule, and cost objectives. This includes functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to support both hardware and software system development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop practical and effective solutions to a range of complex engineering challenges within Ground Segment systems.
  • Operate under general direction, contributing to assignment objectives while working independently on defined tasks.
  • Work is reviewed at key milestones and critical decision points.
  • Ensure the structured and logical translation of customer and system requirements into integrated technical solutions that meet performance, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to support both hardware and software system development.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated system outcomes.
  • Engage with senior engineers and stakeholders on significant technical matters, contributing to programme-level objectives and long-range goals.

Required Skills, Qualifications And Experience

  • Experience in systems engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles across requirements, integration, and lifecycle delivery.
  • Experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programmes.
  • Ability to develop practical solutions to technical challenges with a structured and analytical approach.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including interaction with senior technical personnel.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification/training in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline is desirable.
