Job Description

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Role and Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems that deliver real-world impact across defence, aerospace, and national capability programmes. The role sits within a highly skilled engineering team focused on solving challenging technical problems, shaping system design decisions, and contributing to advanced solutions across the full lifecycle. It offers exposure to cutting-edge engineering practice, autonomy in delivery, and the opportunity to influence major programmes of work.

The position is responsible for technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness assessments across complete system lifecycles. This includes activities spanning concept development and design through to fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

Accountability includes ensuring the structured and logical conversion of customer and operational requirements into robust system solutions that balance technical performance, schedule, and cost constraints. Key activities include functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition in support of both hardware and software system specifications.

Complexity

Innovative and effective solutions are developed for a range of complex engineering challenges aligned with organisational and programme objectives. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of technical delivery, with performance assessed primarily on outcomes and alignment to departmental objectives rather than detailed supervision.

Contribution may include leading or supporting major engineering work packages, with responsibility for guiding projects through to successful completion. Decisions have a lasting impact on programme success, technical direction, and organisational capability. Regular engagement with senior stakeholders on significant technical and programme matters is expected.

Knowledge

Active contribution is made to the development of new engineering concepts, approaches, and solutions. The role requires strong knowledge of industry practices and related disciplines, with recognised expertise within systems engineering and a contribution to technical leadership across the organisation.

Required Skills, Qualifications And Experience

  • Significant experience in Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Post-secondary qualification or equivalent training in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in requirements management tools and processes (desirable).
  • Experience in Verification & Validation (V&V) activities (desirable).
  • Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools (desirable).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
