We are looking for an experienced Systems Operations Engineer to support, optimise and evolve our core systems, platforms and cloud services.

This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining high system performance, minimising downtime and ensuring operational excellence across a complex IT estate. You’ll act as a senior technical resolver, supporting day-to-day operations while contributing to continuous improvement, system design and operational projects.

You’ll work closely with Service Desk, Desktop Support, project teams and third-party suppliers, taking ownership of issues through to resolution and ensuring services are secure, resilient and well-documented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support and optimisation for core systems, platforms and cloud services
  • Act as an escalation point for complex system incidents and problems, owning issues through to resolution
  • Analyse existing systems and recommend improvements to enhance performance, resilience and efficiency
  • Author and maintain high-quality technical documentation covering current and future system designs
  • Ensure systems are maintained, patched and updated in line with best practice
  • Meet SLAs for support, request fulfilment and change delivery
  • Support operational projects, owning assigned tasks and deliverables
  • Ensure systems are secure by design and compliant with organisational policies
  • Produce reports and audits to evidence effective system management

About you

  • Strong experience supporting Microsoft Cloud environments, including M365, Azure and Active Directory
  • Experience with cloud and SaaS platforms, including security, identity, email and collaboration services
  • Knowledge of on-premises infrastructure including Windows Server, VMware and storage technologies
  • Methodical, analytical and highly organised
  • Comfortable working under broad direction and taking ownership of complex issues
  • Strong communicator able to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactive, adaptable and committed to continuous learning and improvement
