Reporting to the Head of Function or Engineering Director, the Systems Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of systems engineers in the successful delivery of technical solutions for our clients.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical expertise with people and project management. You'll guide engineering activities from concept through delivery, ensuring quality, performance, and customer satisfaction while supporting the development of your team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop a team of Systems Engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Plan, prioritise and coordinate engineering activities to meet project deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Manage team workload and resources to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Monitor project progress, identifying and mitigating risks and dependencies.
  • Communicate project status, issues and priorities to engineering leadership and operational stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering activities are delivered in line with company processes, standards and quality requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams within a systems engineering environment.
  • Strong systems engineering knowledge with the ability to provide technical direction and support.
  • Experience delivering engineering projects to quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Ability to manage project risks, dependencies and competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including customer interaction.
  • Good planning, resource management and organisational skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with strong problem-solving capability.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a defence, aerospace, marine or other highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycle processes and methodologies.
  • Experience of bid support, work package estimation or project planning activities.
  • Understanding of requirements management and systems integration activities.
