JOB TITLE: Plant & Tank Inspector
Overall Purpose of Role
To carry out in-service inspection activities on tanks, pipework and pressure vessels on behalf of the Competent Person in accordance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), UKAS RG2 requirements, ISO 17020 and relevant client procedures. The role is responsible for assessing equipment condition, determining fitness for continued service, supporting corrosion management activities and ensuring statutory compliance across inspection programmes, shutdowns and integrity projects. The role primarily covers the North East of England, but cover for the whole of the UK is expected.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Plant Inspector with responsibility for day-to-day coordination of all inspection and corrosion management activities carried out onshore.
- Conduct work activities in line with ISO 17020 requirements.
- Work within the limitations of issued Letter of Authority under UKAS accreditation and the ISO 17020 international standard.
- Carrying out the Inspections in accordance with relevant regulations / legislation and approved company procedures.
- Preparation and review Written Schemes of Examination (WSE).
- Identify preparation requirements for the WSE.
- Examination in accordance with the WSE.
- Understanding the appropriate use of all available NDT techniques.
- Develop and coordinate the NDT requirements to support the examination process as well as reviewing and accepting NDT results.
- Review inspection reports, isometrics, vessel general arrangements and P&ID drawings.
- Write clear and accurate technical reports in a timely manner that fully detail the results of examination carried out.
- Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes or specifications.
- Assess as found deterioration and calculate rates of degradation to support continued endorsement.
- Identify repairs and raise recommendations for remedial action.
- Participation in risk based inspection studies.
- Supporting and liaising with the clients.
- Responsible for participating in the development of a positive culture and working environment that motivates fellow staff to produce highest possible standard of quality and professionalism throughout all aspects of department.

HSEQ
- Basic understanding of BE EN ISO/ IEC 17020 and its implications on the role of a Plant Inspector.

- Adhere to all policies, procedures and risk assessments provided by Applus UK Ltd and co-operate with Management in the development and continuous improvement of these documents.
Qualifications and Experiences
Essential Experience:
- Successful applicants must meet the UKAS definition for category 3 inspection engineers: Category 3. Engineering Technician as defined by Engineering Council or equivalent (e.g. appropriate ONC with relevant experience, NVQ Level III) having a minimum of 5 years’ experience within a relevant discipline of which at least one year shall have been spent working within an engineering discipline associated with the in-service inspection of pressure systems.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience carrying out inspection activities on tanks, pipework and pressure vessels.
- Minimum 5 years relevant industrial experience within fabrication, maintenance, operation or inspection of mechanical static equipment.
- Minimum 1 year experience within an engineering discipline associated with the in-service inspection of pressure systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as PSSR, national design codes such as PD 5500 and international codes and standards such as API and ASME.
- Have good experience in a similar role within the oil and gas industry / energy sector.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project documentation systems.

Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum UKAS RG2 Category 3 Inspection Engineer.
- Minimum of 1 of the following ASME/CSWIP:
- Plant Inspector Level 1 or 2 / API 570/API 510/ API 653 or EMMUA 159.
- Site safety passport for onshore work.
- Meet Minimum Vision Requirements.
Desirable:
- API510 & 570 & EMMUA 159 tank inspector.
- API 580 Risk Based Inspection.
- API 571 fitness for service appreciation.
- L1 Rope Access.
- Emergency First Aid Certificate.
