The Service & Team
The Family Help Service is part of Cornwall Council's Together for Families Directorate and is committed to providing timely, relationship-based support to children, young people and families. We work collaboratively with families and partner agencies to prevent needs from escalating and to improve outcomes for children and young people.
Targeted Youth Support Workers are an integral part of our multi-disciplinary Family Help Teams, working alongside Social Workers, Family Workers, schools, health professionals and other partners. The team is committed to delivering creative, strengths-based interventions that help young people overcome challenges, build resilience and achieve positive outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and experienced team that values collaboration, innovation and professional development.
The Role
As a Targeted Youth Support Worker, you will provide direct support and intervention to vulnerable young people predominantly aged 13-18 and their families. You will work with young people who may be experiencing a range of difficulties including poor emotional wellbeing, family relationship difficulties, risk-taking behaviours, low school attendance, exploitation concerns, social isolation and other vulnerabilities.
You will build positive and trusting relationships with young people, undertake targeted one-to-one interventions, facilitate evidence-based programmes and support young people to develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to achieve sustainable change.
The role involves working closely with families, schools and partner agencies to develop and deliver intervention plans, monitor progress and evidence outcomes. You will contribute to safeguarding arrangements and support young people to access education, training, positive activities and community resources.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families through meaningful, relationship-based practice.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
Working Pattern
This is a full-time position based within the Family Help Service, working Monday to Friday 8:45 to 17:15.
The role requires flexibility to meet the needs of young people and families and will involve working across a locality area, including community venues, schools, family homes and Council offices. Occasional evening working may be required to support young people and deliver interventions at times that meet their needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
