An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic ‘Tariffs & Markets Analyst’ to join our team.
We are seeking a highly numerate individual with experience of data analysis, or a desire to learn, to join our small team of Analysts based at Riverside House (Sunderland). The main purpose of the role is to forecast, analyse and report on Northern Powergrid’s revenues, to accurately calculate the annual use of system charges and to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, governance arrangements and market developments.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be accountable for:
- Accurate monitoring, reporting and forecasting of Northern Powergrid’s use of system revenues.
- Analysis of historical data to forecast future usage and revenue on both a short‐ and long‐term basis.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements/submissions and governance arrangements.
- Calculating Northern Powergrid’s allowed revenue of over £800m per year.
- Preparation of data inputs and calculation of annual use of system charges to collect our allowed revenue.
- Impact analysis and implementation of relevant industry changes.
- Stakeholder engagement on sales & forecasting, use of system charging and electricity commercial governance related matters.
- Monitoring and analysis of potential future changes to the energy market to assess their likely impact.

Key Competencies
- Strong numeracy/analytical skills, including large scale data manipulation and mining from complex systems.
- High level of information technology competence including advanced experience of using Microsoft Office (most importantly Excel).
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Critical thinking, with the ability to independently form an opinion on a given issue whilst taking on board the opinions of others.
- An understanding of electricity trading arrangements, the regulatory formulas contained within the distribution licence (especially the charge restriction conditions) and use of system charge setting process.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent (HNC, 2 A-Levels etc.)
- Strong numeracy/analytical skills (including large scale data manipulation and mining from complex inter‐related information systems).
- Advanced IT skills including experience of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- A self‐starter with the ability to use own initiative.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Numerate degree (Economics, Mathematics, Distribution engineering etc.).
- Proven experience of data analysis.
- Experience of data mining using SQL and programming macros in VBA.
- Project Management skills and/or qualifications.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex concepts.
- Strong problem‐solving skills, with the ability to work independently, or as part of a team, to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Knowledge of electricity distribution industry and processes.
- An understanding of the mathematical formulae driving calculation of electricity distribution allowed revenues.
- An understanding of the electricity distribution use of system charging methodologies.
- An understanding of the electricity commercial code governance arrangements.
- Full driving licence.
