Key Responsibilities

• The Taste Room Technician works as part of a small, close-knit, and dedicated team adopting a flexible, agile, and collaborative approach preparing samples of tea, herbs, fruits, flavours, and coffee for organoleptic and technical assessment by the Tea, Herb, and Flavour Buyer Blenders.
• Sorting and recording raw material samples received daily into the department on internal data management systems.
• Technically assessing quality parameters (moisture content, density, sieve analysis) using specialised laboratory equipment and data entry.
• Ensuring calibration of laboratory equipment is carried out on a regular basis and all records are maintained and filed to satisfy ISO standards.
• Using the Laboratory information management system (LIMS) to input all data required to generate microbiological and chemical tests as directed for dispatch to the relevant external laboratory.
• Utilising the SAP system to look up raw material locations and ensure quality control processes are followed.
• Using OneDrive and SharePoint (Microsoft) to locate raw material samples and pair to unique reference (batch numbers).
• Creating and producing all forms, paperwork, and labels used within the Raw Material and Technical Support Team.
• Preparing raw materials for tasting to the required standard by the respective Buyers/Blenders.
• Accurately weighing experimental blends in accordance with prescribed recipes and prepare blends of raw materials.
• Hand making all tea bag formats for tasting comparisons and NPD (New Product Development).
• Managing and maintaining related storage areas and samples.
• Washing up used crockery and store correctly ready for use and maintain high standards of hygiene within the department.
• Communicating by phone and email to relevant stakeholders across supply centres and tea supply chain.
• Supporting and attending external tastings and events with batch preparation and other duties as required.
• Attending and contributing to all forms of team meetings and wider business meeting across TwiningsOvo, including occasional presentations.
• Making continued process improvements and recommendations to the Raw Material and Technical Supervisor.
• Any other duties as required by the supervisor/manager within the scope of the job.
