Tax Associate (Trainee)
Build your tax career in a hands-on, commercial environment
Tax sits at the heart of this organisation. As a Tax Associate (Trainee), you'll gain real exposure to how tax supports commercial decision-making within a growing healthcare business serving millions of patients.
This is an outstanding opportunity to kickstart your career in tax, with structured study support, hands-on experience, and the chance to work across a broad range of areas including VAT, Corporation Tax, governance, systems, and international operations.
About the Business
This organisation is the UK's largest specialist provider of diagnostic and healthcare services, employing around 3,500 people and working closely with the NHS to deliver care to millions of patients nationwide.
The Finance and Tax teams play a critical role in supporting safe, sustainable growth and ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
What you'll be involved in, but not limited to:
- Supporting VAT returns and Corporation Tax submissions
- Preparing accurate, audit-ready working papers and reconciliations
- Assisting with contract and bid reviews to identify tax risks
- Supporting new entity setups and tax registrations
- Liaising with external advisers and internal stakeholders
- Supporting ERP and P2P processes to ensure tax accuracy
- Assisting with governance and controls, including SAO and CCO
- Maintaining trackers, deadlines, and organised documentation
- Contributing to projects and process improvements

Your Trainee path:
This role is designed to build strong foundations in tax and develop your career over time. You will:
- Build confidence supporting VAT and Corporation Tax compliance
- Learn how tax interacts with systems, data, and wider business operations
- Develop the judgement to identify and escalate issues appropriately
- Gain exposure to commercial decision-making and project work
- Take on increasing responsibility as your experience grows
As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to deepen your technical expertise or explore broader finance or commercial career paths.
What we're looking for
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Confident Excel user with experience working with data
- Genuine interest in a long-term career in tax
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Proactive, curious, and collaborative mindset
