Role Description

The Tax Consultant will provide expert tax advisory and compliance services to SMEs and self-employed clients in a remote, contract capacity. The role involves assessing client documentation, identifying potential tax risks and opportunities, and ensuring adherence to relevant tax laws and regulations.

  • Preparing and reviewing tax returns
  • Advising on tax-efficient structures
  • Supporting tax planning initiatives aligned with client business goals
  • Responding to client inquiries
  • Assisting with tax notices or audits
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes impacting clients

Collaboration with internal team members and clear, client-friendly communication are essential to delivering consistent, high-quality service.

Your aim is to help grow the practice through business development and spotting opportunities within the existing client base.

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CTA).
  • Minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience in tax advisory or compliance, ideally within general practice.
  • Experience working with SMEs and self-employed clients, including familiarity with small business accounting practices.
  • Strong skills in Tax Planning and Tax Preparation to design efficient strategies and accurately complete client filings. Tax planning covers corporate restructuring, capital gains, inheritance tax, remuneration planning.
  • Identifying tax-efficient structures and planning opportunities for clients.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Tax Compliance and Tax Audits to ensure clients meet regulatory requirements and respond effectively to tax authorities.
  • Solid understanding of Tax Law to interpret regulations and provide clear, practical guidance.
  • Proficiency with tax software and cloud-based accounting tools, and strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues in accessible language.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple client engagements, and meet deadlines.
