Tax Disputes Director - Top 10 Firm
Location: London
Salary: £90,000 - £110,000 + benefits
Working Pattern: Hybrid
The Opportunity
A Top 10 professional services firm is looking to appoint a Tax Disputes Director to join its established and growing Tax Investigations & Disputes team in London. This is a senior opportunity for an experienced Tax Disputes professional to take ownership of complex client matters while playing a key role in the continued growth of the practice, both internally and externally. The role offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of clients on complex HMRC investigations and disputes, whilst leveraging the wider capabilities and client base of a Top 10 firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex HMRC enquiries, tax investigations and disputes from initial engagement through to resolution.
- Manage high-value and technically challenging tax disputes across a range of taxes.
- Handle and advise on COP8 and COP9 investigations.
- Advise clients on HMRC enquiries, information requests, voluntary disclosures and settlement negotiations.
- Develop effective dispute resolution strategies and negotiate settlements with HMRC.
- Act as a senior technical adviser to clients on contentious tax matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, identifying opportunities to expand the relationship.
- Drive external business development, developing new relationships with clients, professional intermediaries and key sources of work.
- Take an active role in networking, pitches, proposals and winning new Tax Disputes engagements.
- Drive internal business development by working with Partners and teams across the wider firm to identify opportunities and generate referrals.
- Build strong relationships across Tax, Audit, Accounting and Advisory teams to maximise cross-selling and internal referral opportunities.
- Contribute to the wider strategy and growth plans for the Tax Disputes practice.
- Support, coach and develop managers and junior members of the team.

About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Tax Disputes, Tax Investigations or Tax Controversy professional with a strong track record of managing complex HMRC matters and developing client relationships. You will ideally have:
- Significant experience in Tax Investigations, Tax Disputes or Tax Controversy.
- Strong experience managing complex HMRC enquiries and investigations.
- Experience handling COP8 and/or COP9 cases.
- Strong settlement negotiation and dispute resolution experience.
- Excellent technical tax knowledge and commercial awareness.
- Strong client-facing and communication skills.
- Proven internal and external business development experience.
- The ability to generate new opportunities and develop a strong referral network.
- Experience managing, mentoring and developing junior team members.

CTA, ACA, ATT, legal qualification or equivalent is desirable. Previous HMRC experience is highly desirable but not essential.
