Tax Investigations Case Handler

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000
Location: Fully Remote
Experience: 6+ years' Tax Investigations experience

The Opportunity

A specialist boutique Tax Investigations firm is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Investigations Case Handler to join its growing team on a fully remote basis. The firm specialises in COP 9, COP 8, WDF, Let Property Campaign and wider HMRC investigations, providing specialist advice and support to individuals and businesses dealing with complex HMRC enquiries.

The Role

You will manage a portfolio of complex HMRC tax investigations, taking ownership of cases from initial engagement through to resolution. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing complex HMRC enquiries and investigations from start to finish.
  • Handling COP 8 and WDF cases.
  • Exposure to COP 9, Let Property Campaign and wider HMRC investigations.
  • Developing investigation strategies and assessing technical risks.
  • Preparing responses to HMRC correspondence and information requests.
  • Negotiating with HMRC and working towards appropriate settlements.
  • Advising clients throughout the investigation process.
  • Managing a varied portfolio of complex and sensitive cases.
  • Working alongside experienced tax investigation specialists on high-value and technically challenging matters.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Tax Investigations professional with:

  • 6+ years' experience within Tax Investigations or HMRC Enquiries.
  • Strong hands-on COP 8 and WDF experience.
  • Experience across COP 9, Let Property Campaign and wider HMRC investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of HMRC investigation procedures and tax legislation.
  • Experience managing investigations independently through to resolution.
  • Excellent client-facing, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong technical and analytical ability.
  • The confidence to manage a complex caseload independently in a fully remote environment.
