Tax Investigations Director
Location: Manchester / Hybrid
Salary: £90,000 - £110,000 + benefits
A highly regarded specialist tax investigations practice is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Investigations Director to join its growing Manchester team.
This is a senior opportunity for an established Tax Investigations professional who can combine strong technical expertise with a proven track record in external business development.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing complex HMRC investigations, developing client relationships and driving the continued growth of the practice.
The Opportunity
You will take a senior position within the business, managing a portfolio of complex and high-value tax investigations while also being responsible for developing new business and strengthening the firm's market presence.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing complex HMRC tax investigations and enquiries.
- Hands-on experience handling COP8 and COP9 cases - essential.
- Advising high-net-worth individuals, business owners and corporates on contentious tax matters.
- Developing investigation strategies and managing cases through to resolution.
- Leading negotiations and correspondence with HMRC.
- Building and maintaining senior-level client relationships.
- Generating new business through your own external network and relationships - essential.
- Identifying and converting new business opportunities.
- Developing relationships with professional introducers and referral partners.
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the firm's Tax Investigations offering.
- Providing leadership, technical guidance and mentoring to the wider team.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders to shape the strategic direction of the practice.

About You
We're looking for a commercially driven Tax Investigations professional with a strong technical background and demonstrable business development credentials.
You will have:
- Significant experience in Tax Investigations / Tax Disputes.
- Proven hands-on experience handling both COP8 and COP9 cases - essential.
- A demonstrable track record of winning external business - essential.
- An established network of professional contacts, introducers and/or clients.
- Strong experience managing complex HMRC enquiries and investigations.
- Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
- The credibility and commercial confidence to represent the firm externally.
- Previous experience operating at Director level, or the capability and track record to step into a Director position.
- Ex-HMRC experience is highly desirable, particularly where combined with strong professional-services experience.
