Tax Manager | Glasgow | Full Time | Up to £60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience

Our client is a small accountancy practice focused on helping business owners grow their businesses, make informed tax planning decisions and achieve their personal and business goals. They take a straightforward, commercially minded approach and work closely with their clients to provide practical tax advice and support.

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to deal comfortably and competently with all aspects of taxation across all heads of tax, while managing the demands of a large number of clients and providing advice and assistance to both clients and members of the team.

You will be part of a tax department of three, working alongside the Tax Director and Tax Assistant, within a wider team of approximately 15 people.

The role will involve managing client relationships, providing technical tax advice, ensuring work is completed efficiently and meeting deadlines for submitting returns and other requirements to HMRC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of corporate and personal tax clients
  • Deal comfortably and competently with all aspects of taxation across all heads of tax
  • Lead the delivery of complex tax advisory assignments
  • Provide advice on corporate restructuring, business sales and acquisitions, succession planning and shareholder and remuneration planning
  • Advise on Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and property taxation
  • Provide advice on employee share schemes, SEIS and EIS
  • Review and sign off complex tax computations and returns
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of UK tax legislation and communicate relevant changes to clients and colleagues
  • Act as a trusted adviser to key clients
  • Develop long-term relationships with business owners and decision-makers
  • Attend and lead client meetings
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and deliver commercially focused solutions
  • Support clients with strategic business decisions from a tax perspective
  • Provide advice and assistance to members of the team
  • Manage workload and deadlines across the client portfolio
  • Ensure tax returns and other submissions are completed and submitted to HMRC on time
  • Respond promptly to client queries and build strong relationships
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell the firm's services
  • Develop new business opportunities and referral networks
  • Prepare proposals and contribute to winning new clients
  • Represent the firm at networking events, seminars and client functions
  • Contribute to thought leadership through technical articles, presentations and client communications
  • Manage, mentor and develop tax team members
  • Review work prepared by Managers, Seniors and Trainees
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new team members
  • Deliver technical training sessions across the firm
  • Assist with departmental planning and workflow management
  • Work closely with the Partners to develop and grow the tax offering
  • Contribute to the firm's strategic objectives
  • Improve internal processes and efficiencies
  • Act as Assistant Money Laundering Reporting Officer to support the firm's MLRO with AML controls, transaction alerts, SARs and AML compliance systems

Essential

  • Qualified Chartered Tax Adviser and CIOT member
  • At least 5 years post-qualification experience in an accountancy practice
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to deal with all aspects of taxation across all heads of tax
  • Experience in a client-facing role
  • Ability to manage a large number of clients and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Ability to ensure tax returns and other submissions are completed on time
  • Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters at both a technical and layperson's level
  • Well organised
  • Team player with a positive, can-do approach
