Trust & Estates Tax Manager - London

Our client is seeking a Trust & Estates Tax Manager to join their growing Private Client Tax team in London. The successful candidate can be based in either the City or West End office, with hybrid working available.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced private client tax professional to join a collaborative and growing team, advising a diverse portfolio of trusts, estates, and high-net-worth individuals. The role offers a varied mix of compliance and advisory work, providing exposure to complex tax matters while working closely with Partners and Directors.

As a trusted adviser, you'll build strong relationships with clients and other professional advisers, delivering practical, commercially focused solutions and contributing to the continued growth of the team. You'll also play an important role in supporting and developing junior colleagues while helping to drive high standards of client service across the practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Partners and Directors with the day-to-day management of the team, while contributing to business development and new client opportunities.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of private clients, with a primary focus on trusts and estates, including those with multiple income streams and capital gains.
  • Lead the delivery of technical trust and personal tax advisory projects, ensuring a consistently high standard of client service.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships and providing timely, practical advice.
  • Advise on a broad range of Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax matters.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of trust accounts and UK tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and deadlines.
  • Monitor the progress of client work, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and within agreed timescales.

What We're Looking For:

  • CTA and/or STEP qualified, or hold an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong experience preparing UK trust accounts, inheritance tax accounts, and related tax computations.
  • Advanced knowledge of UK private client tax, including personal tax anti-avoidance legislation.
  • Experience liaising with HMRC on complex technical matters and resolving enquiries on behalf of clients.
  • Proven experience in Self Assessment and preparing tax computations for private clients, particularly in relation to trusts and estates.
  • Sound understanding of inheritance tax planning, including the use of trusts and the tax implications of lifetime transfers.
  • Confident handling HMRC enquiries across direct taxation, including settlements and penalty negotiations.
  • Experience advising UK trusts and estates.
  • Strong background working with private clients, including owner-managed businesses; experience with sole traders and partnerships would be advantageous.
  • Exposure to non-UK resident trusts would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with UK and international high-net-worth individuals, including trustees and beneficiaries of trusts and estates.
