About us
The UK tech sector is growing fast, and Onside has built a genuinely differentiated way to support it, combining premium client service with modern systems, automation, and commercial thinking.
We're Accountants and business advisers for VC-backed technology startups and scale-ups, acting less like a traditional back-office provider and more like a finance co-founder, giving founders a dedicated team for bookkeeping, statutory accounts, tax advisory, R&D tax credits, and fractional CFO support.
We're proud to be backed by Multiplier, a San Francisco–based, AI-native professional services company built to transform our industry, giving us the tools and investment to build technology into everything we do.
Key Responsibilities
The Growth Tax Manager is responsible for:
- Taking ownership of a portfolio of tax work for start-up and scale-up clients and acting as a key point of contact.
- Preparing EMI valuation reports and supporting clients with EMI and ERS advice/compliance, including HMRC submissions and related advisory work.
- Preparing EIS1/SEIS1 compliance filings and supporting advance assurance applications.
- Reviewing Corporation Tax returns and associated computations on an ad hoc basis, working alongside the accounts team who manage preparation, and providing technical input to ensure accuracy and identify risks or planning opportunities.
- Undertaking tax research, reviewing legislation and HMRC guidance, and forming well-reasoned conclusions based on independent analysis.
- Producing high-quality written advice, reports, and technical correspondence for clients and internal use.
- Building strong client relationships, supporting efficient delivery, and identifying improvements in processes, technology, automation, and wider commercial opportunities across the tax function.
- Providing ad hoc tax support as and when required, including VAT enquiries, restructurings, remuneration planning, employment-related tax issues, and wider corporate tax matters.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
