Tax Manager | Corporate Tax & Advisory | In-House Tax
West Yorkshire | Hybrid & Flexible Working | Excellent In-House Opportunity
Are you a Corporate Tax Manager looking for your first move from practice into industry? Or perhaps you're already working as an in-house Tax Manager/Senior Manager or similar, and looking for a broader role with greater commercial exposure?
Gifford & Partners are partnering with a significant, Leeds based employer to recruit a Tax Manager into an established and highly regarded in-house tax function. This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an ACA or CTA qualified tax professional who enjoys the technical side of tax but wants to move beyond purely compliance-led work.
You'll work closely with senior tax leadership and gain exposure across a genuinely varied tax agenda, combining corporate tax compliance and advisory, tax governance, employment taxes, HMRC matters, international considerations, and wider commercial projects.
The opportunity
Rather than being pigeonholed into one narrow area of tax, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your experience while working within a large and complex organisation. Your remit will include corporation tax matters across a number of UK entities, managing external advisers in relation to overseas operations, and supporting the business with tax implications arising from commercial and legislative change.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You'll also gain exposure to areas including Senior Accounting Officer requirements, Tax Strategy, Corporate Criminal Offence processes, employment taxes, Off-Payroll Working, Benefits in Kind, National Minimum Wage considerations, and property-related taxation. The role will involve regular interaction with finance teams and stakeholders across the wider business, so it's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants their next move to offer greater visibility, variety, and commercial involvement.
Who could this suit?
You'll ideally be ACA, CTA or equivalently qualified, with strong practical tax experience and the ability to interpret and apply UK tax legislation. Just as importantly, you'll be a confident communicator, comfortable managing projects, and interested in developing within a collaborative tax team. You do not need to be an expert across every area listed. Breadth is useful, but the opportunity has genuine scope to learn and develop and lean on external advisors when required.

Why consider it?
For someone coming from practice, this provides the opportunity to see tax from the other side of the fence: owning issues rather than simply advising on them, working directly with the business, and seeing the commercial impact of the decisions you help shape.
For someone already in-house, the attraction is the breadth, scale, and variety of the role alongside access to an established tax team and senior tax leadership.
Part-time and flexible working arrangements can also be considered, and I would be very happy to have an informal and confidential conversation.
